طوفانی از تولد ستارهها در کهکشان قنطورس آ

خطوط تیره و گرد و غبار در هم پیچیده کهکشان بیضی شکل غول پیکر قنطورس آ،شبیه به ابرهای بزرگ و بارانی در یک روز طوفانی است.

شکل کهکشان قنطورس آ و گاز و گرد و غبار موجود در آن نشان از برخوردی در گذشته و ادغام این کهکشان با کهکشانی دیگر دارد که باعث ایجاد گاز هیدروژن و فشرده شدن آن و شکل گیری طوفانی از ستارگان جدید شده است که در قسمتهای قرمز رنگ قابل مشاهده است.

کهکشان قنطورس آ در فاصله ای بیش از 11 میلیون سال نوری از زمین قرار دارد و نزدیکترین کهکشان فعال به زمین است و در مرکز آن یک سیاه چاله وجود دارد که در تصویر قابل مشاهده نمی باشد.

این تصویر در ماه جولای 2010 با 3 دوربین گسترده تلسکوپ فضایی هابل گرفته شده است.

At a distance of just over 11 million light-years, Centaurus A contains the closest active galactic nucleus to Earth. The center is home for a supermassive black hole that ejects jets of high-speed gas into space, but neither the supermassive black hole or the jets are visible in this image
